Pulmonary / Critical Care

Our Pulmonary department is dedicated to the diagnosis, education and treatment of patients with breathing disorders, such as asthma, emphysema and pneumonia. The department is staffed by licensed respiratory therapists, who work under the direction of pulmonary specialists.

Pulmonary Function

Pulmonary Function Tests may be performed to help diagnose disease, to monitor disease progression, or therapeutic intervention over time, to evaluate disability, or as a variable in research studies.

Common tests performed include:

> Spirometry
> Spirometry Pre and Post Bronchodilator
> Carbon Monoxide Diffusing Capacity
> Methacholine Challenge
> Right to Left Shunt Testing
> Exercise Testing with Gas Exchange

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehab is offered to individuals with the following disease processes:

> Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphasema, chronic bronchitis)
> Pulmonary fibrosis
> Asthma
> History of ARDS

Why should I attend Pulmonary Rehab?

Your commitment to develop a healthier and more active lifestyle is the first step to an improved quality of life. The fear of being short of breath can be overwhelming and influence decisions regarding activities. Those decisions often lead to reconditioning and more profound disabilities. This cycle of inactivity is very difficult to break.

Critical Care

Critical care medicine specialists provide dedicated, continuous care to critically ill, hospitalized patients. Special areas of service include:

> Management of shock and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
> Respiratory failure
> Primary pulmonary hypertension vasodilator trials
> Laser bronchoscopy
> Multisystem organ failure (including renal and hepatic)

> Central nervous system crises
