Endocrinology

The endocrinologists of Medical Consultants are eager to assist primary care doctors and other specialists in the evaluation and treatment of various endocrine disorders. We have two board-certified endocrinologists on staff in our 800 S. Tillotson Ave. location.

Approximately 40% of patients referred to us are seen for poorly controlled diabetes mellitus. Another 40% of consultations pertain to a variety of thyroid disorders such as hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules and cancer. Other common referrals include patients with hyperlipidemia, disorders of calcium homeostasis, osteoperosis and disorders of tumors of the pituitary and adrenal glands.

Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes Mellitus is a complex disorder that affects multiple organ systems. Considerable advancements have been made in the treatment of this disease to lessen the risks of both microvascular and macrovascular complications. Studies indicate that diabetes is best controlled when patients are maintained in close, long-term contact with medical personnel. It is our philosphy that patients referred to us for diabetes continue close follow-up care with their primary physician, allowing their disease to be co-managed by the primary care physician and the endocrinologist.

Thyroid Nodules

Because of the risk of cancer, the evaluation of thyroid nodules often requires specific testing and very meticulous follow-up. To aid in that process, thyroid ultrasound examinations and fine needle aspiration (FNA) of thyroid nodules are generally performed in our office, negating the need for additional hospital appointments and procedures.
